Coffee and Cars in October

coffee.cars.10.13Last weekend I spent a couple of hours at the early morning Coffee and Cars event.  Mike Woodward was there too and a non-member with a 70-something B.  Usually involving hundreds of cars, it was a light day since many drivers became spectators at the GranPrix.  Parked behind me in this photo is a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner with that very early retractable hardtop.  The trunk lid is about a 1/4 mile long.  The Skyliner had a complex mechanism which folded the front of the roof and retracted it under the rear decklid. It had three roof drive motors driving four lift jacks, four door-lock motors, ten solenoids, four locking mechanisms for the roof,[1]and a total of 610 ft (185.9 m) of wiring.  What could possibly go wrong?

Friday this week, we will travel to Navasota to participate in the 3 day Fall Gathering of the Faithful (GOF), the all-Texas party of M.G.s.
