Cleaned petrol tank and encapsulated surface rust with epoxy.

    1) Removed drain plug, fuel line, fuel level sensor  and tank cap.

    2) Maintaining originality I put 20 whitworth bolts and nuts and a piece of chain into the tank. Added 4 squirts of dawn soap and an imperial gallon of water. Sealed up openings and began agitating and rotating for several hours. For agitation I used a rocking chair with a rope. Removed soap with a pressure washer. Drained as much water as I could and added one imperial pint of lacquer thinner and continued agitation. Drained liquid, rust particles and fished out nuts and bolts with a magnet. Used shop vacuum cleaner for several hours to blow dry the tank.

    3) Added one pint of diluted phosphoric acid and let sit for one hour periodically rotating the tank. Flushed tank with water followed by lacquer thinner. Blow dried the interior for several hours.

    4) Mixed 3 pints of epoxy and poured into tank. The epoxy was very viscous, consequently I had to rotate the tank slowly for 15 minutes. Drained the residual epoxy recovering about 50 percent taking approximately 30 minutes when the epoxy began to harden.

I've been driving mine lately, but I do have a different transmission to swap into it.  Every time I think about doing it, I decide I don't want to have the car off the road.  Even though it should easily be a weekend job, life always seems to make stuff like that take longer!

It's great to see the work being done on these cars.  Saving a piece of history.
