In 1985 Candy and I moved to Houston from Oklahoma.  In 1986 we traveled to San Antonio for the national convention of the American MGB Association.  A young John Twist and his wife were very active in the organization at the time   The image below is from the fall 1986nissue of their publication The Octagon.  This was the first MG show we ever attended and we snagged a 3rd Place award in the Concours d'Elegance.  Our pewter plate is still somewhere in the house.  I noticed recently that the 2nd place winner was Ed Malmgren with his 1974 MGB.  Ed was the president of the Houston MG Car Club in 1982.  We did not join the club until 1992.

Dwight & Candy's 1973 MGB is on the lower left

It is a pleasure to announce that our Board of Directors has approved Life Membership for Renne and Claire Lanphier.  They drive a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine, in green, and were previously long-time active Members.  In support of our Membership Chairman, Renne continues to faithfully prepare and distribute our handsome club name tags for new members. The Lanphiers reside in Manvel, Texas and we hope to see them and their Sunbeam soon.

If you missed the February Club meeting and would like to catch up on the happenings of the Houston MG Car Club, you can see it here.  There is good news as we are slowly and safely returning to driving our cars, weather permitting - Yes, we know that is a big IF this year.

The following video is of John Oates, of Hall & Oates fame, touring the MG exhibit at the Lane Automotive Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.  Oates is a long time LBC fan and owner of a 1959 MGA Twin Cam.

On behalf of the Houston MG Car Club, Tony Galt delivered 40 toys to the Toys for Tots regional collection center in LaPorte this week.

Toys for Tots was founded by a Marine in 1957. The organization’s mission is to give donated toys to less fortunate kids during the holidays. The coordinator for Greater Houston Area Toys for Tots, Marine Staff Sergeant Eric Quesada, said that requests for toys this year are double that of previous years, and that “in almost every single one of those requests [is] something about job loss to COVID.”

Thank you to all club members who participated in bringing joy to needy children this 2020 holiday season.
